FUSION MAGAZINE

Fusion Magazine is Kent State University’s LGBTQ+ Magazine, serving as the only student magazine covering LGBTQ+ issues in Northeast Ohio.

I have been on the Fusion staff for 3 years, serving as a graphic designer 2023-2024, Art Director 2024-2025, and Assistant Visual Editor 2025-2026. As a designer for “The Grunge Issue”, I designed six layouts for a 64-page magazine, along with creating social media and website content alongside a wonderful team. As the Art Director for “The Visibility Issue” and “Our Story Continues”, I managed a team of 13 talented designers and illustrators to create two 32-page magazines, produced in the fall and spring semesters.

I played a key role in shaping the creative direction of our publications and directed the production of magazine layouts, ensuring they upheld the vision and standards of Fusion. I delegated design tasks to team members and facilitated the design of social media content and website graphics alongside the magazine development. I worked closely alongside the Editor-In-Chief and editorial leads to help create something that reflected the defiance and resilience of the queer community in the face of adversity.

My time at Fusion has been truly impactful in informing how I approach layout design: as a collaborative vessel that strengthens the story it tells and continues the narrative that the author or photographer crafted.
